dc.description.notes | Provides a brief background to the incidence, prevalence and health implications of domestic violence nationwide, before outlining the methodology and results of a study aimed at determining and comparing the current and lifetime rates of domestic violence in a community based sample of middle aged women, with that of a more general practice setting. Though certain limitations are noted, the results indicate that despite their relatively advantageous socio-economic position, there was considerable lifetime prevalence of domestic violence amongst the sample and that there may be a link between long term violence and concurrent morbidity during middle age. Argues the medical profession needs to become aware of and begin exploring this potential link. | en |
