Provides a summary of existing research demonstrating the links between women’s experience of domestic violence and poverty, and identifies some of the consequences this relationship can have for women’s health, work and training experience. Recent US studies that have explored the relations between women’s experience of domestic violence and their welfare-to-work activities are reviewed in detail, and the impact of the newly implemented Family Violence Option (FVO) is discussed. Argues that available research on the connections between welfare, employment and violence illustrates the complexity of women’s support and advocacy needs, and identifies directions for future research and policy development which might better recognise this diversity.en
