The political and feminist underpinning of women’s services in the 1970s is contrasted with the more recent de-politicisation of services. Causes of de-politicisation include changes in the neo-conservative political landscape, funding pressures and competitive tendering, professionalization of women’s services, service silos, and absorption by large charities. There has been a shift away from a social and political recognition of men’s violence against women towards an individual pathology of women’s poor choices and victimisation.en
