The Northern Territory Government introduced new Aboriginal Family Violence and Domestic Violence Strategies in 2003, with a four-fold focus: intervention for victims, child protection, working with young people affected by violence, and facilitating change in the behaviour of offenders. The major initiative of the Aboriginal Family Violence Strategy is the Strong Family, Strong Community, Strong Future project whose progress is documented in the Project Newsletter. This first edition of the newsletter explains the principles and the framework on which the project is based. It reports on the Strong Family gathering held in Darwin in May 2003 during which 30 participants from Nguiu, Milikapiti, Wugularr and Barunga attended a four-day workshop and it includes contact details for more information about the project.en
