Notes:	Overview: This US resource comprises a discussion of the development of the Children’s Exposure to Domestic Violence (CEDV) Scale, which is a self-report tool used to measure the degree of exposure to domestic violence on multiple factors reported by children between the ages of 10 and 16 years. The manual for use of the scale includes the CEDV Scale (revised). Discussion: The manual from the Minnesota Center Against Domestic Violence (MINCAVA) begins by outlining the development of the CEDV Scale. The authors describe the existing measurement and assessment tools, and the reasons for developing the CEDV Scale. An overview of the data and literature regarding children’s exposure to domestic violence is followed by an overview of factors to consider when assessing child exposure. The authors state that the relationship between exposure and possible impacts is complex and discuss the various risk factors that may account for the variance in the impact of exposure between children. Chapter two provides an overview of the development of the CEDV Scale, outlining the process of research, development, pilot testing and changes that took place. The result is the CEDV Scale in its present form, which consists of 42 questions in three sections. The questions ask children to rate items using a four point Likert –type scale. If the response is positive to any exposure, the child is then directed to an additional set of options asking how the exposure occurred. In Chapter 3 the authors discuss the validity and reliability of the CEDV Scale. The authors describe the studies undertaken to validate and test the reliability of the CEDV, including pilot field testing that included test-retest validity, testing for convergent validity with the Richters and Martinez Things I’ve Heard and Seen (TISH) Scale (1990). The participants, data analysis procedures and statistical results are detailed in the conclusion to Chapter 3. Appendix A contains materials used in developing the CEDV Scale and in conducting the testing and validation studies. These include materials given to participating service providers and parents, letters, sample agreements, agreements with children and parents and staff training materials. Instructions for administering the CEDV Survey are detailed. Appendix B comprises a copy of the CEDV Scale (revised) questionnaire.
