Notes:  Overview: This code of practice was produced by Domestic Violence Victoria, the peak body for services providing a specialist response to women and children experiencing family violence in Victoria. The code is designed to address a need for consistency, transparency and accountability across these specialist services and was developed as part of systemic reform of the family violence system in Victoria.

Contents: Section 1 of the report provides an introduction, the background and context of the development of the code of practice and generally describes the document.

Section 4 outlines criteria for gaining access to family violence specialist support services, the referral pathways utilised and other practices and issues concerning referral.

Section 5 outlines and describes the organisational framework, policies, grievance procedures, privacy and duty of care issues, safety plans, service evaluation and workforce development.

Sections 6, 7 and 8 outline the key elements of practice and service delivery regarding women and children.

The guide concludes with a glossary, abbreviations and appendices addressing issues, such as women without permanent residency, interpreters, child protection reports and the implications of the practice guide.
