This document provides information on the work of Women’s Aid in Northern Ireland in developing domestic violence prevention programmes. It includes good practice guidelines for professionals delivering materials to children and young people in schools and external settings. The Women’s Aid Prevention Training Programme is designed to develop the skills of professionals. Two preventive education programmes have been developed: Helping Hands:and Heading for Healthy Relationships:. The Helping Hands:programme aims to get children under 12 years of age to develop skills for personal safety, stress reduction and promotion of self worth. It also includes a ‘Protective Behaviours’ programme to address issues such as bullying, racism, sexism, harassment, conflict resolution, mentoring, restorative justice and abuse of all kinds. The Heading for Healthy Relationships:programme is aimed at young people aged between 12 and 18 years.
