Notes:  This is the policy statement on family and domestic violence by the Department for Community Development in Western Australia. It sets out the Department’s broad responsibilities in promoting the safety of children, young people, individuals, families and communities affected by family and domestic violence. The Department administers the Children and Community Services Act 2004 and responds to domestic violence through the prescribed role for the Department when children are involved and for improving safety for those experiencing family violence through the Acts Amendment (Family and Domestic Violence) Act 2004.

This policy statement outlines the Department’s role in family and domestic violence, and consists of 8 principles that underpin the Department’s response to family violence. The 7 policy goals include:

    1. that safety and wellbeing of children, adults, including seniors, and communities experiencing family and domestic violence is enhanced;

    5. that strengthened collaboration, integration and coordination across service provider and community sectors take place;

    7. that cultural, religious, linguistic and geographic diversity is addressed.
