Provides a list of 25 recommendations dealing with the proposed changes to the Family Law system, followed by detailed discussion on each of the proposals. Among the recommendations are that proposed Family Relationship Centres make provision for non-English speaking clients, that the punitive approach to residential parents apparent in the Discussion Paper be addressed, that domestic violence be acknowledged as a child protection issue and that a ‘safety first’ approach be seen as the main aspect in determining a ‘child’s best interest’. Speakout also opposes proposed changes to the Family Law Act dealing with: the rebuttable presumption of equal shared parental responsibility; the requirement of consultation; and grandparents’ involvement in parenting plans.en
