Notes:  This Victorian guide is for mental health professionals working with victims and members of family violence. It also provides information about responding appropriately to perpetrators of family violence. It is designed to give clinicians information to help them identify and respond to family violence. It summarises the mental health aspects of family violence and how to assess women, including asking women about violence and responding to disclosures by women. It gives information tips on assisting the woman to assess her and her children’s safety, as well as how to assess children and young people, including some key indicators. It advises on responding to disclosures by perpetrators that they are violent towards family members. Guidance on working with family violence when both partners are your patients or within the same mental health practice, including documentation and guidelines for continuing care are included. Key contacts and referrals in Victoria are provided.
