Notes:  General Overview: This booklet reports on a meeting held in Chicago with 25 public defenders and victim advocates from around the United States. The meeting gave members of the two professions an opportunity to discuss how they viewed each other and their work around domestic violence. Their responses were captured in the booklet to facilitate understanding of each others’ perspectives and bridge some gaps in their work.

Objective: The booklet aims to facilitate dialogue between public defenders and victim advocates for a better understanding between the professions, in order to advance safety and serve the same families with more effective interventions.

Conclusions: In conclusion the booklet finds that facilitating dialogue between public defenders and victim advocates can lead to better understanding and respect between the professions, which can lead in turn to a safer, more just and effective intervention.
