Discussion: The booklet has been produced by women who have experienced domestic and family violence, for women who are experiencing such violence. It provides information about the kinds of abusive behaviours that constitute domestic and family violence. It briefly details the effects of this violence on women and children, using women’s stories to illustrate these effects. It provides detailed information on strategies to remain safe for women who stay or leave a domestically violent relationship, including strategies to keep children safe. It also discusses the support services available to women, providing detailed information on NSW Police and the Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) process, Centrelink services, court procedures and court support, victim compensation and information about accommodation and housing including refuge accommodation and services provided by the Department of Housing.
