Notes:  A guide for therapists and teachers to facilitate group work with children between 8 and 11 years of age, this kit includes a programme and resource material for a series of 8 group sessions, a book for children “Standing up to the Stand Over Woman”, and a poster “Stand Up Stand Down and Stand Over” which depicts attributes of assertive, aggressive and passive behaviour. Children who benefit from this programme have often been seen by others as “bullies”. The programme aims to help children to identify strong feelings and to deal with them in helpful ways, both for themselves and for others. The authors distinguish this group from groups suitable for children who are themselves experiencing domestic violence. The programme has been run 48 times since 2000 and evaluations indicate that improvements in behaviour of the at-risk children who participated are sustained at the six-month follow-up. The programme is part of the Victorian Community Group Program which won a Gold Mental Health Service Award in 2002.
