Notes:	Overview: This Australian DVD is a recording of two seminars and supporting materials concerning domestic violence and child protection issues, presented as part of the Research to Practice Seminar Series hosted by the NSW Department of Community Services. The first seminar outlines current research and issues for policy and practice, while the second seminar describes a model of practice. * Bringing the perpetrator into the practice and policy as part of the approach, particularly when children are involved and focussing on the risk presented by the perpetrator. This discussion includes supporting workers to deal with perpetrators and to deal with police and other agencies. Safety issues arising from this are discussed, and problems arising from previous and existing approaches are outlined. Different methods of risk assessments are outlined and evaluated and a simple approach is presented as good practice. * Other complexities, for example child abduction, forced marriage, teenage family violence and community violence The second seminar is presented by Ms Belinda Cooley and is entitled 'Children and Domestic Violence: A model of practice', the speaker discusses the model of practice utilised at the St George Domestic Violence Counselling Service. The presentation begins with an overview of the impact of violence on women, children and young people, including fatalities; before presenting an outline and discussion of the context and orientation of the provision of services. A description of the model and framework for practice is provided, as well as issues for consideration. The model of practice is outlined, with discussion of safety issues, when children should be counselled, risks and dangers to the women and children particularly post separation when the risks escalate. Issues surrounding parenting, contact visits and planning for safety, relationships and strengthening relationships are discussed. The paper identifies several indicators of risk and discusses the ways in which these can be used to inform the filtering of referrals to various agencies and to enhance multi-agency working and inform protection strategies for workers.
