Notes:	Overview: This conference paper looks at ways to change the negative stereotype of all Indigenous Australian men as violent, addicted and criminal. Discussion:The paper maintains that a very small number of Indigenous men are engaged in anti-social behaviours such as alcoholism, domestic and family violence and crime. In discussing where this anti-social behaviour comes from, Adams suggests that genocidal policies and the legacy of colonisation have destroyed many important aspects of Indigenous society and culture. Colonisation’s impact on Indigenous men has been to erode the male power base and leave Indigenous men powerless. The author suggests that some Indigenous men partake in anti-social behaviour as a response to this. The paper recommends that a holistic approach be taken to challenge the stereotype of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. This approach must be culturally specific, site specific, inclusive of incarcerated men, collaborative and closely evaluated.
