dc.description.notes | Presented at the 9th Australasian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, Many Voices Many Choices, this series of overheads highlights the need to take account of the various forms of violence, from physical/sexual assault to emotional abuse/neglect, and consider the ways in which domestic violence and child abuse can interact and overlap. A review of the different kinds of intimate or family violence that can occur, such as sibling abuse, abuse of an adult carer by a child, self-harm, violence in the community and animal/pet abuse is conducted and research into the short- and long-term effects of exposure to violence on children is summarised. Suggests we need to broaden our conception of what is ‘abusive’ if we are to understand the scope of the problem of child abuse and neglect. | en |
