| dc.description.notes | This comprehensive study explores the experiences of children who are assessed because of allegations of child abuse in cases before the Family Court of Western Australia. Particular attention is drawn to the impact on and perceptions of the child and protective parent, and the protection of the best interests of the children in the family law and the Family Court process. It was found that children felt the need of being informed, consulted, respected and taken seriously by Court staff. The forensic focus and adult perception of the Family Court’s system of assessment resulted adversely for the children. Similarly, the division between state child protective service and the Federal Family Court hinders the performance of the family law system to protect children. | en |
