This article explores the experiences of women working in organisations identified as feminist. The framework of feminist organisations entails non-hierarchical structures where decision-making is collective, women control the service at all levels and the individual needs of clients and workers are considered paramount. Although the three organisations studied self-identified as feminist, two of them had either certain levels of subordination or a clear structured hierarchy. The narratives of twenty-five women about their understanding of feminism, perceptions of collective structures and feelings of inclusion illustrate the dilemmas, contradictions and achievements encountered when working in feminist organisations.en
