Elder abuse is not limited to the mistreatment perpetrated by carers against dependent old people. Their grown-up offspring, relatives and acquaintances also abuse autonomous adults. Research show that elder abuse and family violence share several aspects. Some of the common elements detected are within the categories of abusive behaviour, symptoms of victimisation, causal factors, perpetrator’s beliefs and principles for effective intervention. This paper focuses on Queensland’s responses and imperfections. The need for a legislative response and the consequent frameworks that dominate the debate are particularly addressed.en
