dc.description.notes | Presented at the ‘Character, Impact and Prevention of Crime in Regional Australia’ Conference, this paper discusses the development of a ‘best practice’ model for working with children, young people and parents/carers who have experienced domestic violence. The potential conflict between ‘child-centred’ and ‘feminist’ approaches to practice are examined and some mechanisms for integrating the two proposed. Emphasising the importance of raising a woman’s awareness of the effects of domestic violence on both herself and her children, it is argued that a coordinated response to the needs of victims and their children is essential to prevention of the intergenerational transmission of violent behaviour. | en |
