dc.description.notes | Available online<br/ >Discusses the design and testing of a new ‘Intrusive Scale’, a self-report survey measuring the incidence/frequency of intrusive behaviour, occurring within the context of interpersonal relationships. The researchers argue that intrusiveness needs to be delineated from physically abusive behaviours and have therefore devised this new measuring scale. A pilot study, involving the general population, was conducted in two parts, firstly, to ascertain a clear range of intrusive behaviours and secondly, to obtain the perceived social severity of each act for scoring purposes. A larger study was then undertaken to verify internal consistency. The researchers initial analysis of the Intrusiveness Scale found it to be promising, but acknowledge the need for further analysis using alternative samples, with more extensive methods of collecting and standardising the impact weightings. Interestingly, a number of associations between intrusiveness scores and other variables were uncovered, primarily that between intrusiveness and general negative thoughts about sexual relationships, especially in regards to trust and abandonment. | en |
