Paper describes "Boys RAVE" project, based at Youth and Family Service (Logan City) Inc. in Queensland, which is an eight-week group programme for boys aged 10-14. Highlights that boys are doubly abused, firstly by their experiences of domestic violence in their own homes and secondly, through the negative messages they are given as sons of violent fathers. Stresses the need to work within a framework that acknowledges the central issues of gender, power and control. The themes of safety plans/support networks and acknowledging and dealing with feelings are addressed through a range of creative activities including games, videos and recreational activities. Raises questions and dilemmas for service providers concerning the stigma associated with boys seeking help, barriers to referral and difficulties of evaluating outcomes of the programme. Strategies are discussed concerning involvement of the non-offending parent. For boys who do not wish to participate in the programme, other services are offered. Essentially, it is intended that boys who participate will have a positive experience and are then willing to access further support.en
