Available online<br/ >Examines the two major ways in which legislation and the criminal justice system have responded to the issue of stalking in NSW; stalking as a criminal offence and use of Apprehended Violence Orders. Links these developments to an understanding of stalking as a domestic violence and gender based issue, highlighting statistics that support this conclusion, including the prevalence of stalking behaviour amongst perpetrators of female homicide. Explores the effectiveness of current responses to stalking noting some of the advantages and disadvantages of defining it as a criminal offence. Concludes that in order to adequately address the issue of stalking, particularly in the context of domestic violence, a multidisciplinary approach which emphasises implementation and education of law enforcement personnel is essential.en
