Concentrates on three areas relevant to abuse of older people. They include the well ‘hidden’ problem of violence against older people and the need to put the issue on the public and policy agenda. The naming of the problem is also examined, and the ways in which the term ‘elder abuse’ views older people as a homogenous group. The result is not fully acknowledging the complexity of violence and abuse, and viewing it separately to other forms of abuse. Outlines some future directions for research, which include obtaining the views of older people who have experienced domestic violence.en
