An edited version of this paper appears in the March 2003 issue of Parity (vol. 16, no. 2)<br/ >Outlines the key elements of a programme developed by Annie North Women’s Refuge and Domestic Violence Service and the Loddon Mallee Housing Service, that aims to bridge the divide between transitional and crisis accommodation for women with children escaping domestic violence. The tendency for welfare services to require clients to ‘fit the model’ rather than attempting to mould the service to meet the needs of clients is highlighted, as is the scarcity of resources available for developing new and innovative modes of service delivery. Essentially the programme aims to provide an integrated and coordinated alternative to existing services by combining the support and housing functions of the two agencies – the result is that families in crisis are able to stay in the one place until safe and secure housing is found.en
