Explores three ways in which men have participated to end violence against women: as profeminist activists; as the targets of public education campaigns; and as members of programmes for perpetrators of violence. Anti-violence men’s groups engage in community education campaigns, work with violent men and collaborate with women’s organisations. The men’s role in education campaigns is discussed with regards to three government-run campaigns: ‘Stop Violence Against Women’; ‘Freedom From Fear’; and ‘Violence Against Women – It’s Against All the Rules’. Finally, the effectiveness of voluntary perpetrator programmes and their preventive nature are critiqued. The author concludes that changes in the construction of masculinity, in gendered power relations and in men’s lives in general are necessary to eliminate violence against women.en
