| dc.description.notes | Explores the interactions of women who experience family violence with the criminal justice system to identify what they seek from the various services. The analysis focuses on victim satisfaction and victim safety during the criminal procedure. Issues such as victim reluctance, the decision to prosecute or discontinue the prosecution and some of the outcomes are examined. The report of a self-selected group revealed that satisfaction with the response of ACT police occurred in 74 per cent of the cases, and with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in more than 50 per cent of the cases. Satisfaction was correlated with information, contact with police/prosecutor, fairness for victim and offender’s improvement. Out of all the respondents, one woman had been physically assaulted since case finalisation and 19 per cent had had to call for police assistance. Nevertheless, 57 per cent of the victims expressed that they felt very or reasonably safe at case finalisation. | en |
