dc.description.notes | Reports on research aimed at identifying the strategies employed by domestic violence service provision agencies when assisting clients with limited literacy in English. The issues discussed are: the ways in which service providers recognise and support women with limited literacy; the dilemmas faced; the nature of contact between service providers and ESL literacy providers; and professional development. It was found that some practitioners are proactive and support women with literacy needs; however, lack of time and incomplete networks hinder their efforts. Where service providers have stronger links with formal education providers, clients have greater access to a variety of services. The author, a literacy educator, proposes a number of recommendations for future action. | en |
