| dc.description.notes | This paper challenges the definition of homelessness when describing women and children leaving domestic and family violence. It is considered that the concept of homelessness does not address, articulate and raise the reasons for women and children’s need for shelter. Furthermore, women and children who are in a state of homelessness might have a home. The subjugating and silencing practices that occur around the naming and framing of domestic and family violence are also discussed. For instance, professional discourses are privileged over the narrative of the person experiencing the issue. The author concludes by inviting service providers, policy makers and academics to take the time to say why women and children are homeless. | en |
