dc.description.notes | This research examines the civil and/or criminal nature of domestic violence cases before Queensland's courts, and the implications of such approach. All domestic violence files in the Brisbane registry of the Magistrate Court for the year 2001 were inspected. It was found that almost 87 per cent of the files involved applications for Domestic Violence Protection Orders, and that in only one per cent of these files was investigation for prosecution likely to occur. In most cases the aggrieved spouse was female and the respondent spouse male. The reasons that prevent criminal prosecutions are discussed. | en |
