dc.description.notes | This paper reports on a study that examines the circumstances and characteristics of family homicides in Australia between 1989 and 2002. The data were obtained from the National Homicide Monitoring Program of the Australian Institute of Criminology. Around 38 per cent of the homicides that occurred during the aforementioned period involved family members. There was an annual average of 77 intimate partner homicides, 25 filicides (children killed by their parents), 12 parricides (parents killed by children), 6 siblicides (the killing of siblings) and 11 homicides between other family members such as cousins and grandparents. The research presents information of the victims, offenders, weapons utilised, time of the crime and other patterns. | en |
