Notes: | Presented at the Family Strengths Conference in December 2001, this paper outlines the aims and key features of an eight-week programme developed by the Bankstown Community Health Service to assist mothers and children exposed to domestic violence in dealing with issues that arise in the post-separation period. Collaboration between agencies, mothers, children, families and philosophical orientations are identified as essential elements of this strengths-based approach. Some of the experiential and interactive exercises employed by the programme, such as art therapy, are outlined, as are the primary themes guiding the use of these strategies. Feedback from group members, plans for future development and evaluation of the programme are also included. |
