dc.description.notes | General Overview: This keynote paper from the 2008 International Conference on Homicide offers an explanation for the decline in rates of homicide between intimate partners in Canada over the past thirty years.<br/ ><br/ >However, this research addresses the need to challenge the persistent stereotype that those who commit intimate partner homicide are more justified in their violence than those who commit stranger violence due to the perceived intimacy and seeming complexity of the relationship when perpetrator and victim are intimate partners.<br/ ><br/ >Finally, this paper recommends that the domestic violence sector work collaboratively to continue to reduce the occurrence of homicide. Specifically the author recommends greater collaboration between criminal justice actors, community based agencies, and survivor advocacy and support groups, and also between governments and academic researchers. | en |
