Authors: Victorian Women’s Housing Association
Keywords: Housing;Impact on children and young people;Economic costs
Year: 2010
Publisher: Victorian Women’s Housing Association
Notes:  General Overview:The Victorian Women’s Housing Association (VWHA) was established in 1996 to provide innovative housing solutions for disadvantaged women and their children. Their recently released research report details how they and their partners have created $30 million in value for tenants, funders, developers and Victorian communities from a $7.45 million investment.

Discussion:The VWHA provides affordable housing solutions to women who have come from situations of domestic violence or from the corrections system. Over the past twenty years, VWHA projects have delivered 17 properties to Roxburgh Park and Cairnlea in Melbourne. By March 2011 there are plans for 65 to 80 properties to be available for rent in a variety of Melbourne city and suburban locations.

VWHA also advocates for affordable housing at the state, federal and local government level and has recently made presentation to the Family and Community Development Committee State Parliamentary Inquiry into the Adequacy and Future Directions of Public Housing.

This report covers the key findings of the Social Ventures Australia (SVA) Consulting report commissioned by VWHA to analyse the Social Return on Investment (SROI) which has been generated by VWHA’s projects in the suburbs of Roxburgh Park and Cairnlea. It discusses the benefits to stakeholders; these comprise women tenants, children of tenants, all levels of government, VWHA community partners and housing developers.
