dc.description.notes | Overview: This presentation to the Australian Institute of Family Studies by the Coordinator of the Australian Centre for the Study of Sexual Assault discusses the juxtaposition of social exclusion, social justice, homelessness, family violence and sexual assault.<br/ ><br/ >Meanings and origins of the terms, social exclusion and social justice, are discussed and the terms ‘rooted injustice’ and ‘cultural injustice’ defined and discussed. The history and public concern surrounding violence and sexual assault are outlined. Issues concerning the prevalence, risk factors and effects of family violence and sexual assault are outlined, quantified and discussed. Hidden contributors such as socio economic status and family history are explored, and exceptions and contradictory results discussed. The connections between homelessness and family violence are discussed in depth, including the contribution of mental illness and trauma to homelessness in the context of domestic violence.<br/ ><br/ >Implications of the issues discussed for practice and policy are detailed and discussed at length.
