General Overview: This Victorian report reviews international evidence regarding preventing violence against women and outlines a framework for implementing prevention activities in Victoria.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: This report reviews international evidence regarding the factors causing violence against women and models of good practice designed to prevent it. It identifies the causes of violence against women as beliefs in rigid gender roles, male dominance and control of wealth in relationships, cultural norms regarding gender and cultural support for gender inequality.<br/ ><br/ >It finds that the prospects for prevention of violence against women are sound. While prevention activities have not been well evaluated, there is sufficient evidence to invest planning efforts into primary prevention. Strategies include programs to reduce individuals’ risk of perpetrating or experiencing violence, campaigns to shift community attitudes, community strengthening work, advocacy for community, government and corporate action and reform of policies and legislation.en
