Face to face interviews were carried out with individuals aged sixty-six and over, living in private households (including sheltered accommodation. Respondents were surveyed in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2006. They were followed up at a later date. In total 2111 individuals were interviewed.<br/ ><br/ >Findings: The survey found that 2.6% of people aged 66 and over (approx. 227,000 people), living in private households, reported suffering mistreatment in the past year.
