Examines representations of male-female interactions within the context of marriage in Thai comic books and discusses the role such images play in individuals understanding of and behaviour in relationships. Theories utilised to analyse popular culture are briefly reviewed and it is suggested that the prominence of cartoon books in Thailand warrants further attention being given to this particular medium. Specific patterns of spouse abuse/violence identified in the comics are then discussed and examples given. Adopting a critical feminist perspective, the authors suggest a relationship between the prevalence of domestic violence in Thailand and representations found in popular culture like cartoons. The implications these images have for women’s rights in Thailand are also explored.en
