Prepared by the Victorian Department of Human Services under the federal Partnerships Against Domestic Violence:initiative, this resource guide provides professionals working in family violence and child protection services with strategies for developing common understandings of relevant issues across the sectors, improving service coordination, clarifying roles, establishing agreed protocols and enhancing levels of information exchange. The guide is set out in six parts, with Part One providing a general overview of the impact of family violence, definitions and key principles guiding the project. Part Two examines the need for strong partnerships between the child protection and family violence service sectors, and Parts Three and Four address some of the central issues arising in the context of working with families and within service systems respectively. In Parts Five and Six, the specific roles and responsibilities of the child protection sector and the family violence sector are outlined. The guide also includes listings of further sources of information and useful tools in developing and maintaining sustainable collaborative relationships.en
