dc.description.notes | Presents the methodology, results and conclusions drawn from a New South Wales study aimed at ascertaining what elements of health care service delivery women who have experienced domestic violence view as important. Through a series of focus groups, the Australian and North American experience is examined and four main themes explored; factors en/discouraging women to utilise local health services, factors dis/enabling women to disclose violence, positive and negative characteristics of service providers and appropriate strategies that were or might have been offered. Argues that improvements are needed in six main areas; services for Aboriginal women, access to services, promotion of existing services, service environment improvements, education of service providers in domestic violence issues and the provision of specialist health care services. Concludes by advocating for continued improvements to the quality of health care services. | en |
