Abstract:  This policy brief outlines the urgent housing challenges faced by young women and gender-diverse people in Australia due to rising rents, limited affordable housing options, and an inaccessible path to home ownership. The brief highlights key recommendations for government action, including the recognition of housing as a human right, the need for gender-responsive housing solutions, and greater youth representation in housing policy-making. It calls for culturally safe housing options for First Nations young people, place-based approaches to housing, and mental health supports for those affected by housing insecurity. The policy brief advocates for systemic change to address the gendered impacts of the housing crisis and promote a more equitable housing future for all.

This policy brief draws on findings from the report 'We’ve been robbed': Young women and gender-diverse people’s housing experiences and solutions
