Notes:	General Overview: In this book chapter, Australian researchers, Eileen Baldry and Tony Vinson, report on a study that examined the neighbourhood or local community as a source of support for families in two socio-economically depressed areas of Sydney. Discussion: The study was carried out within the framework of an ecological approach and aimed to examine social networks. In examining two neighbourhoods, one with high level of reported child abuse and one without a high level, the study sought to examine whether the characteristics of the neighbourhoods as a whole had an influence on social relations, distinct from the influence of these characteristics on an individual level. The authors outline the literature and theory behind the development of the study, before going on to describe the methodology. The results and findings are outlined and the implications of the findings discussed.
