Notes:  General Overview: :The US authors of this book chapter discuss and review the various prevention efforts that have been undertaken to reduce intimate partner violence.

Discussion: :The chapter examines the effectiveness of a number of interventions targeting intimate partner violence. The interventions considered are schools-based dating-violence prevention programs, media campaigns, couples counselling, health-care screening, community services for victims, police responses, court interventions, sentencing and coordinated community responses. Only the dating-violence programs are recommended. Couples counselling and some examples of advocacy and batterer intervention programs are thought to be promising, while media campaigns, screening, police responses, court interventions and coordinated community responses are considered to have insufficient evidence to support their efficacy in reducing intimate partner violence.
