| Notes: | Drawing upon in-depth interviews conducted with 40 victims of wife rape in the US, this chapter explores the wide range of experiences of wife rape, identifying particular patterns such as battering rape and sadistic rape. It highlights differences in the frequency of rape incidents and the types of forced sexual behaviour women were subjected to. Women's perceptions regarding the cause of the rape incident/s are then examined and the strategies participants used to cope with and manage rape and violence in their relationships are discussed. |
