This chapter examines the limitations of the legal services in Victoria in assisting women living in rural and regional areas. Isolation and reduced access to support services worsen the handling of complex situations. In order to improve these women’s wellbeing, the available responses are analysed and a number of recommendations are suggested. Amongst the services provided by the Women’s Legal Service Victoria, the following are discussed: telephone advice and referral system; casework services; and community legal education. Domestic violence issues; the accessibility and convenience of intervention orders; access to legal representation in family law matters; and farm inheritance practices are addressed. The ACT Family Intervention Program is proposed as a successful model.
