Notes:  This article discusses the prevalence of violence against Aboriginal women, including violence from outside and from within the Aboriginal community. For a long time, the feminist movement in Australia was unaware of Aboriginal women’s experiences. Demands for reproductive rights and equity in employment ignored forced sterilisation and insufficient education issues endured by Aboriginal women. However, feminism has become more sensitive to their particular circumstances, and Aboriginal women are actively participating in the process. The possibilities and challenges offered to Indigenous women by the international human rights framework are also addressed.
