Notes:  Introduces some of the major social movements which have influenced this book’s authors, primarily the restorative justice, battered women’s and Indigenous self-determination movements, and attempts to set the context within which the book has been written. The concepts of restorative justice, domestic and family violence are give broad definitions and some of the major issues raised throughout the essays are identified. Suggests that while the evidence indicates restorative justice models are a viable alternative to criminal justice responses, it is essential that we continue to critique their applicability to family and domestic violence situations, and that the regulatory order ensure victims of violence have access to a range of appropriate options.
