Notes:  This book details the history of over 20 years of running a women’s refuge known as Lyn’s Place (Manning District Emergency Accommodation Committee Inc or MDEA) in Taree, in rural NSW. It tells the story of women and men who volunteered their time to start this refuge and how they worked to maintain it. It provides a safe accommodation for women who need to escape domestic violence. It also discusses issues involving Indigenous women who have played a major role in Lyn’s Place and the problems faced by women with disabilities and older women. The book contains 26 chapters but is structured in 2 parts. The first part covers the history of Lyn’s Place and the second deals with the growing epidemic of domestic violence, including what happens to the children in domestic violence, the role of the Department of Community Services, assistance at court, and the role of police.
