Notes:  This chapter looks at the evaluation of the meaning of domestic violence allegations in custody disputes for mothers, fathers and children. It discusses and summarises differential approaches to custody disputes, interventions, and the impact of exposure to domestic violence on infants, pre-school children, latency elementary school-aged children, early adolescents and late adolescents. It addresses such issues as the parent alienation syndrome, false allegations and mutual abuse, and aims to assist those trying to assess whether a history of domestic violence exists within the family. It concludes that domestic violence requires a different analysis of the custody dispute, specific assessment strategies and differential court interventions.
