General Overview: The editors of this book have put together an international collection of articles about children exposed to domestic violence, including theoretical and practice perspectives. Discussion: This book includes twenty articles on children exposed to domestic violence. They are divided into three groups: theoretical and research issues, intervention and prevention, and policy development and international issues. The theoretical and research issues covered include the challenge of establishing how many children are exposed to domestic violence, the effects of battering on women’s parenting, the childhood experiences of abusive men, the neurophysiology of witnessing abuse and post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). The section on intervention and prevention looks at evaluation of group treatment, helping children living in shelters, PTSD, joint mother-child group treatment, cooperation between child protection workers and battered women’s advocates, and anti-violence education. The final section includes a critique of family preservation policies, child protection workers and domestic violence, and domestic violence and child custody in New Zealand, Canada and United States.
